Canny.io review 2026: what it costs once you grow

Canny.io is the best-supported feature request board in the category, and for a lot of teams it is the right buy. The thing to model before you sign is the meter, because it is tied to how many of your customers use it.

What Canny.io does well

Start with the part no honest review can wave away. Canny.io has been doing this for years, and the things it is good at are the things that are hard to build.

Autopilot collects feedback nobody filed. It reads conversations in Intercom, Zendesk, Freshdesk, Gong and Zoom, then captures, deduplicates and triages what it finds. If your feature requests currently arrive as support threads that nobody ever revisits, that alone is a different product from a board with a submit button on it.

Requests can be weighed by what the customer is worth. HubSpot and Salesforce sync both ways, and exported posts carry the account's monthly recurring revenue. Above a certain size, prioritising by revenue rather than by raw vote count is simply the correct thing to do, and very few tools in this category can.

The free plan is unusually generous inside its limit. Unlimited posts, unlimited boards and unlimited admin seats with the Contributor role, private boards, API and webhooks, a public roadmap and a changelog, all at nothing. It stops at 25 tracked users, and changelog emails are not sent on it, but within those bounds it is a real product rather than a demo.

Procurement will not slow you down. SOC 2, CCPA and GDPR, security reviews, single sign-on and payment by invoice on the Business tier.

The satisfaction numbers back it up. On G2 it holds 4.5 from 108 reviews, with 80 of those at five stars, and on Capterra 4.6 from 77. Both counts were read in a browser on 23 August 2026.

What does Canny.io cost in 2026?

This is the part that needs care, because the headline figure and the figure you end up paying are different numbers separated by your own success.

Read from canny.io/pricing and from Canny.io's own billing plans help article on 23 August 2026. The help article publishes all nineteen increments; the marketing pricing page shows only $0 and $79, which is why most comparisons quote only the two ends. Never mix the two columns in one sentence: on yearly billing the honest span is $79 to $1,079, and on monthly billing it is $99 to $1,349.

The meter, and why it only goes up

A tracked user, in Canny.io's own words on the help page, is "anyone with a post, vote, or comment attributed to them". Their pricing page widens that: anyone an admin acts on behalf of counts, and anyone Autopilot captures out of a support conversation counts.

Nothing resets those. There is no annual clearing, no inactivity window, no way to prune a customer who filed one request in 2024 and never came back. The count is cumulative, so the bill is a ratchet, and the thing turning it is your customers turning up.

Canny.io is straight about what happens at the boundary. Go over and they "automatically upgrade you to the next tier" with a prorated charge, unless you set a monthly spend limit; once that limit is reached, they "will stop tracking feedback from new users". Both are reasonable ways to run a business, and both are worth knowing before you sign rather than after.

Who Canny.io is wrong for

Anyone whose customer base is much larger than their revenue. A consumer app, a free tool, an open-source project with a big community: the meter reads people, not money, so a product with fifty thousand happy free users and a modest subscription line is exactly the shape that gets hurt. Canny.io says it offers custom plans for high-volume consumer products, which is a fair answer and also a phone call rather than a price.

Anyone who needs comments out of the system on a small plan. The CSV export is post data. Canny.io's own help centre marks the comment export control "Export (Business plan required)" and states that the feature is only available on the Business plan. Comments are reachable through the API below that, but not through the interface.

Anyone buying on price alone. Nolt.io, UserJot and Frill.co all start cheaper and stay flat. If your requirements are a board, a roadmap and a changelog for one product, you are paying for Autopilot and a Salesforce sync you will not use. Our Canny.io alternatives page prices five of them at the tier you would actually be on.

Where Docket fits

We make Docket, so treat this section with the suspicion it deserves and skip it if you came here for a verdict on Canny.io. You already have one, at the top.

Docket is the same three jobs, bought once instead of rented: $99 for Pro, $249 for Studio, unlimited products on both paid tiers, and a free edition that never expires. It arrives as a repository you copy into your own account, so the data is Markdown files you already own and there is no meter of any kind.

The honest scope of that: Docket has no Autopilot, no CRM sync, no SOC 2 report and no support desk to escalate to at two in the morning. You run it. If nobody on your team wants to own a deployment, paying Canny.io monthly to never think about it is the right answer and we would rather you took it. The head-to-head page lays out both sides in a table.

Frequently asked questions

Is Canny.io worth it in 2026?
For a funded team that wants a hosted feature request board with no operational burden, yes. It holds 4.5 from 108 reviews on G2 and 4.6 from 77 on Capterra, and its Autopilot feedback capture has no real equivalent in the cheaper tools. The reservation is the pricing model rather than the product.
How much does Canny.io cost?
Free at 25 tracked users. Pro starts at $79 a month billed yearly, or $99 billed monthly, at 100 tracked users, and rises in nineteen published increments to $1,079 a month billed yearly, or $1,349 monthly, at 5,000. Above that is the Business tier, which is quoted rather than published. Checked 23 August 2026.
What counts as a tracked user on Canny.io?
Anyone with a post, vote or comment attributed to them, anyone an admin acts on behalf of, and anyone their Autopilot AI captures out of a support conversation. The count is cumulative and never resets, so the figure your plan is priced on only goes up.
Does Canny.io have a free plan?
Yes, and it is one of the better ones. Unlimited posts, unlimited boards, unlimited Contributor admins, private boards, API and webhooks, a public roadmap and a changelog, all at nothing. It stops at 25 tracked users, custom domains are not included and changelog emails are not sent on it.
Can I export everything from Canny.io?
Posts, yes, to CSV. Comments are the catch: Canny.io's help centre marks the comment export control as requiring the Business plan and says the feature is only available on that plan. Below Business you can still pull comments through the API, but not through the interface.
