FAQ

Questions.

Does it send my notes anywhere?
No. Everything runs in your browser. Your notes are not uploaded or stored, and closing the tab clears them.
How does it decide where a line goes?
A label wins first: a feat: or fix: prefix, an emoji such as a bug, a heading such as Fixed, or Added: in front of the line. Without one it reads the first words, so Add goes under New, Fix under Fixed and Improve under Improved. Words such as vulnerability or CVE go under Security, and Remove or Drop under Removed. A line with no clear verb or keyword goes under Improved. Put Added: or Fixed: in front of a line to move it.
Why were some lines left out?
Typical merge commits, version bumps and changelog edits are dropped. Lines written as chore:, refactor:, test:, docs:, build: or ci:, and lines about tests, docs or dependency bumps, are internal and left out by default. The page tells you how many it left out. Tick Include Internal Changes to bring the internal ones back under Improved.
What format should release notes use?
Put the version and the date first, group the changes by kind, and write one change per line, starting with what people can now do. Plain-text bullets suit the App Store and Google Play. Markdown suits a CHANGELOG.md, and the GitHub tab gives text for the description box when you draft a release on GitHub.
What is the Keep a Changelog format?
It is a plain-text layout for a CHANGELOG.md file, described at keepachangelog.com. Each release gets a heading with the version in square brackets and the date, then sections named Added, Changed, Deprecated, Removed, Fixed and Security. The Changelog tab writes that layout, with New as Added and Improved as Changed.
How long can store release notes be?
The App Store allows 4,000 characters for What's New in This Version. Google Play allows 500 Unicode characters per language. The App Store and Play tab counts your text against both.
Can Docket write these for me?
Docket's changelog page comes with every edition, including the free one. On Pro and Studio your coding agent writes up each release from what you shipped when you ask, and Docket emails the people who asked to hear when their request is marked done. Paste the sections and bullets from this page into the body of a changelog entry; the version and date go in its header.
