Questions

Good to know.

How do I export my bookmarks?
  • Chrome: at the top right, select More, then Bookmarks and lists, then Bookmark Manager. At the top, select More, then Export Bookmarks. Full Chrome guide
  • Safari: choose File, then Export Browsing Data to File, select Bookmarks and click Download. Safari saves a .zip, and you can drop it here as it is. Full Safari guide
  • Firefox: open the menu, choose Bookmarks, then Manage bookmarks. In the Library window, choose Import and Backup, then Export Bookmarks to HTML.
Which files can it read?
The bookmarks .html file Chrome, Edge, Firefox and most other browsers export, Safari's .zip export, Chrome's own Bookmarks file, a Firefox .json backup, both kinds of Pocket export (the zipped CSV and the older ril_export.html), and any CSV with a url column, such as a Raindrop export.
Is my bookmarks file uploaded anywhere?
No. Your browser reads the file itself, so your bookmarks never leave your device and nothing is stored. Close the tab and it is gone.
How are duplicates found?
Two bookmarks count as the same when their addresses match once http or https, www., capital letters, a trailing slash and anything after # are ignored. The first one is kept. Duplicates stay in the list, marked, so you can see them, and Remove Duplicates leaves them out of what you copy or download.
Can I import the result into another browser?
Yes. Choose HTML and download it: it is a bookmarks file that Chrome, Safari and Firefox can all import, with your folders and the dates you saved each one.
What does the CSV include?
One row per bookmark with its title, address, folder and the date it was added, ready to open in Numbers, Excel or Google Sheets. The download is marked as UTF-8, so accented titles open correctly.
Can Muse import my bookmarks?
Yes. In Muse, our Mac app, choose File, then Import Bookmarks, and pick the .html file your browser exported. For a Safari or Pocket .zip, convert it here to HTML first and import that. Your links become living bookmarks, and Muse grabs the title, favicon and key image. It is free for 14 days, then $29 once.
