Questions

Good to know.

How do I pick a colour from an image?
  1. Drop a picture on the page, paste one, or choose a file.
  2. Move over the picture to preview the colour under the pointer, then click to pick it. The code is copied straight away.
  3. Switch between HEX, RGB and HSL, and click the picked colour to copy it again.
Is the picture sent anywhere?
No. The pick happens inside this browser tab: the picture is read on your own device, never sent to a server, and nothing is kept once you close the page.
How exact is the picked colour?
It is the colour of the single pixel you click, read from a copy of your picture up to 2,000 pixels across with your browser's own canvas. Larger pictures are scaled down to that size first, so a pick on a very large photo can blend a few neighbouring pixels.
What is the difference between HEX, RGB and HSL?
They are three ways of writing the same colour. HEX, like #0481BB, is the short code most design tools and stylesheets accept. RGB gives the red, green and blue amounts from 0 to 255, so #0481BB is rgb(4, 129, 187). HSL gives the hue as an angle from 0 to 360, then saturation and lightness as percentages, which makes a colour easy to lighten or darken by changing one number.
Can I get the whole palette too?
Yes. Below the picked colour, the tool lists the picture's main colours, from 3 to 10. The Colour Palette From Image tool puts that list first.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes. Tap the picture to pick a colour, and tap any colour to copy it.
Does Muse have a colour picker?
Yes, for everything you save. Muse, our Mac app, shows the main colours of each saved image as colour dots when you hover its card. Click a dot to copy its code, or hold Command and click to search your library for that colour's name. It is free for 14 days, then $29 once.
