It has a Chrome extension, MCP and a command-line tool for AI apps, and optional AI summaries and questions that use your own OpenAI key. It is free for 50 captures, then $39 (normally $49) with two years of updates or $79 (normally $99) for life, on two Macs.
People look elsewhere for three reasons. They want AI search that works on its own, without bringing an OpenAI key. They save from Safari or Firefox, or want to bring an existing library across, all of which are still on Resurf's roadmap. Or they want lifetime updates for less than $79. Where Resurf asks for your own OpenAI key before its AI does anything, Muse's AI runs on your Mac: from the first launch it tags what you save and searches the words on a page, the text printed inside an image and colour, and a free on-device add-on finds images by what they look like. It already does several things on Resurf's roadmap: a Web Clipper for Chrome, Firefox and Safari, imports from Pinterest, Raindrop, Pocket, Eagle and browser bookmarks, and X bookmarks that file themselves as you scroll. It is $29 once across three Macs, with every future update included free.

Anybox is the app Resurf itself compares against, and the closest in spirit: native on Mac, iPhone and iPad, synced through your own iCloud rather than a company's servers, with fast offline search and Spotlight integration. It saves links, images, files and notes, and can archive a page as a PDF, web archive or screenshot. The free tier is capped at 50 links; Pro removes the cap for $14.99 a year or $39.99 once, about half of Resurf's Lifetime price. Its site documents an MCP server for Anybox 2.15, which had not reached the Mac App Store when we checked in late September 2026.

Spatial is another native Mac app you can buy outright, and it runs full semantic search across images, video and notes on your Mac, which Resurf has on its roadmap. Spaces you lay out by hand hold images, video, webclips and Markdown notes, and there is an MCP server so an AI assistant can work with what you collected. It has a real free tier, and Pro is $1.99 a month, $19.99 a year or $49.99 once, with iCloud sync on Pro. Two cautions: it needs macOS 15.6, and its own website still advertises older, higher prices than its App Store listing.

mymind is one of the three apps Resurf measures itself against, and the opposite choice on where your library lives. It is a private, AI-driven visual memory for links, images, notes, quotes and video that tags everything automatically, reads the text inside images and finds things by look, without you filing anything. It runs on the web, Mac, iPhone and Android, and your library lives in mymind's cloud. The Bookmarker plan is $4.99 a month without the AI features; those start with Student of Life at $7.99 a month.

Raindrop is the other app on Resurf's own comparison list, and the pick for bookmarks everywhere. It saves links, articles, images and files into collections and tags, with optional AI tag suggestions and, on Pro, full-text search and permanent copies of saved pages. It runs on the web and every platform, and the free tier keeps unlimited bookmarks. It is a link manager first and cloud-based, so it is less of a visual library than Resurf or Muse, but it is far cheaper and works anywhere.
