What It Does
Charm, the private on-device autocorrect and writing assistant for Mac, stops you re-reading emails and second-guessing your spelling. Three features work together to give you confidence in every word. Toggle each one independently.
Catches the typos macOS autocorrect misses, or makes worse. No red squiggles, no right-click menus. Corrections land in under 200ms.
Fixes what you miss in flow: missing full stops, lowercase starts, comma splices. You keep writing, Charm tidies up behind you.
Finishes your words before you do. Press Tab to accept, keep typing to ignore. It learns your vocabulary, getting smarter the more you write.
Charm works in every Mac app. Because apps handle text in two ways, Charm has a mode for each and picks the right one for you.
The default for native Mac apps, where Charm has full text access. Just works, no setup needed.
For web browsers and Electron apps, which handle text differently from Mac apps. Just press the shortcut and Charm fixes everything in the field, no selecting needed.
Other Goodies
Charm isn't just autocorrect.
There are a few more tricks up its sleeve that make everyday writing genuinely better.
Set up custom shortcuts that expand as you type. Make @@ your email, addr your postal address, sig your signature. You define the rules.
Auto-replace words with emoji as you type: write "coffee" for ☕, "heart" for ❤️. Optional and fully customisable, you pick the triggers.
A built-in dictionary that learns your vocabulary. Add a name, technical term, or slang once, and Charm never flags it again, across every app.
Choose which features run where, independently per app and website. Spelling but not prediction in one, nothing in your code editor, it's up to you.
How It Works
Write like you normally would, in any app or text field. Nothing to change about how you work, Charm handles the rest.
A local AI model detects spelling errors, grammar mistakes, and predicts your next word. It sits in your menu bar, invisible until it helps.
Corrections appear with a soft glow. Blink and you'll miss it. Press Backspace or ⌘Z to undo any correction, then Y to add it to your dictionary.
Mac apps handle text in two different ways. Charm uses the right mode for each, so corrections work everywhere.
- On-device AI - corrections processed locally
- No account - license key, that's it
- No telemetry - zero analytics or tracking
- No cloud, ever - 100% on-device inference

Questions
Compatibility
BuyingWhere Charm works, and how to control it per app.
Yes, Charm works in every Mac app. Mac apps handle text in two different ways, so Charm has a mode for each and sets the right one for you automatically.
Automatic corrects inline as you type. It is the default for native Mac apps, where Charm has full text access, and needs no setup.
Manual fixes text on demand with Fix Selection (⌥⌘V). It is used for web browsers and Electron apps, which handle text differently. Select your text, press the shortcut, and Charm fixes it instantly.
Charm sets the right mode for every app automatically and detects newly installed apps on every launch. You can override any app's mode in Settings.
Yes. Charm picks the right mode for each app automatically, but you stay in control. In Settings you can set any app to Automatic (corrects as you type, best for native Mac apps) or Manual (corrects on demand with Fix Selection, ⌥⌘V, best for web browsers and Electron apps).
You can also turn Spells, Polish, and Oracle on or off individually for each app.
Fix Selection is an on-demand shortcut (⌥⌘V by default, customisable in Settings) that fixes spelling, grammar, capitalisation, and punctuation. It works everywhere, including web apps, code editors, and any text field that supports copy and paste.
Select text and press the shortcut to fix just that selection. If nothing is selected, Charm automatically selects all text in the field and fixes everything.
Some Mac apps have their own built-in macOS autocorrect. You have two options: disable that native autocorrect in System Settings and let Charm handle everything, or use Charm's per-app settings to choose exactly which features run where. You can also set those apps to Manual mode and use Fix Selection when you need it.
Right now Charm supports UK English and US English, switchable in Settings. Other languages are on our roadmap for future development.
How It Works
BuyingWhat Charm does, and how to drive it.
We built an interactive guide that walks you through every feature in your browser: spelling, grammar, prediction, undo, dictionary, and Fix Selection. It takes about two minutes.
macOS autocorrect only fixes spelling, and often makes things worse. Charm does three things: spelling correction, grammar fixing (capitalisation, punctuation, apostrophes), and word prediction. Plus you can undo any correction with Backspace or ⌘Z, and use Fix Selection to fix text on demand in any app.
Press Backspace or ⌘Z to undo it immediately. Your original word comes right back, and Charm offers to add it to your personal dictionary so it won't change that word again. Press Backspace again to remove the word entirely.
No. Charm is lightweight at idle. On first launch you'll download a local AI model, around 1.5 GB for the lite version or 1.7 GB for the recommended one. One-time only. After that, everything runs locally with minimal CPU usage and corrections happen in under 200ms.
Charm has a personal dictionary that learns your vocabulary. The first time it corrects a name, technical term, or slang you use intentionally, press Backspace or ⌘Z to undo, then Y to add it to your dictionary. After that, Charm never flags it again.
Privacy & Security
BuyingWhere your text goes. (Nowhere.)
No. Corrections happen entirely on your Mac. Your keystrokes never leave your computer. Zero servers, zero cloud, zero tracking.
No. Charm runs entirely offline. All corrections and predictions happen on your Mac using a local AI model. The only time you need a connection is the initial app download and to download the local AI model on first run.
Licensing
BuyingPricing, devices, and updates.
Charm is a one-time purchase of $9.99, with no subscription. Every feature is included, so there is nothing extra to unlock later.
There is no separate free trial, because every purchase comes with a 14-day money-back guarantee. Buy Charm, use it for two weeks, and if it is not for you, email support@theodorehq.com for a full refund. That is your risk-free trial.
Yes. Each license key works on up to 3 Macs. Your license is tied to the key, not the machine.
Automatically. Charm has a built-in updater that checks for new versions in the background. When an update is available, you'll see a notification, one click to install. Updates are free forever with your license.
Getting Started
UsingFirst launch and permissions.
Charm needs two macOS permissions: Accessibility and Input Monitoring, both switched on in System Settings > Privacy & Security. They sit in two separate lists, so it's easy to have one on and the other off. After enabling both, quit and reopen Charm so macOS registers them. To confirm it's working, type teh followed by a space in any native Mac app; it should become the.
macOS usually needs Charm to relaunch before it recognises a newly granted permission. Quit Charm fully (menu bar icon, then Quit) and reopen it. Also double-check both permissions are on: Accessibility and Input Monitoring are in two different lists under System Settings > Privacy & Security.
Corrections
UsingFix Selection and per-app behaviour.
Fix Selection is a manual mode that works in any app, including ones where live correction isn't possible. Select the text you want cleaned up and press ⌥⌘V; Charm fixes spelling and grammar in one pass. You can change the shortcut in Charm's settings.
Charm corrects live in native Mac apps. If it works in one app but not another, check two things: the other app may be a web browser or Electron app, where you use Fix Selection (⌥⌘V), or the app may be switched off in Charm's per-app settings. Open Charm's settings and make sure Spelling is enabled for that app.
No. Recent updates added safeguards so a correction only applies when it forms a real word and lands exactly where intended. Make sure you're on the latest version via Check for Updates. If you ever see a correction land oddly, let us know at support@theodorehq.com.
Browsers
UsingWeb browsers and Electron apps.
Web browsers and Electron apps handle their text in a way that doesn't let Charm safely rewrite it live as you type. In those apps Charm uses Fix Selection instead: type as normal, then select the text and press ⌥⌘V, and Charm cleans it up in one pass. Charm switches to this mode automatically in those apps and lets you know when it does.
Make sure you're on the latest version: open Charm and choose Check for Updates. Recent updates significantly reduced how much work Charm does while you type in a browser. If it still feels heavy afterwards, email support@theodorehq.com and we'll take a look.
Privacy
UsingWhat Charm never reads.
Everything Charm does happens entirely on your Mac. Nothing you type is ever stored or sent anywhere, there's no cloud and no account, and Charm works fully offline. It only acts on the text you're actively writing, and it stays out of your browser's address and search bars.
No. Charm skips password fields entirely and doesn't read them at all. And because everything runs on-device, nothing you type anywhere is stored or transmitted.
Features
UsingModels and prediction.
Yes. In Charm's settings you can switch between the on-device models Charm includes (Gemma 2 2B and Qwen 2.5 3B). Both run entirely on your Mac. Custom or third-party models aren't supported yet.
Charm predicts the next word as you type (press Tab to accept), and it now also learns short phrases you write often and offers the whole phrase with a single Tab, all on your Mac. Predicting longer, original sentences is in active testing and will arrive as a free update.
Licensing
UsingDownloads and activation.
You can download the latest version any time at theodorehq.com/charm/download. Your license key activates Charm on up to 3 Macs.
No questions match. Try another word, or clear the filters.

Say Hello
Charm is made by Theodore HQ, a small studio making Mac apps that improve how you spend time on your devices. Delightful where they can be, invisible where they should be.
We built Charm because macOS autocorrect makes your writing worse, and we didn't think you should have to pay a yearly subscription to a cloud service that trains on your every keystroke. Charm fixes your spelling and grammar entirely on your Mac, as a one-time purchase.
Charm is one of a family of Mac apps from Theodore HQ: Solace, Atlas, Shiny, and Echo. If you like the way Charm feels, you'll probably like them too.
We care about making software that's joyful, well-designed, and fairly priced. No subscriptions, no tracking. Just tools that make your Mac better.
