About
1Password is a password manager and digital vault that stores logins, passkeys, credit cards and secure notes behind a single master password, then fills them into apps and browsers automatically. Watchtower flags reused, weak and breached passwords, Touch ID unlocks the vault instantly, and shared vaults let families or small teams keep sensitive items in sync without emailing spreadsheets.
Built by AgileBits, the Toronto studio behind 1Password since 2006, the app is a direct download rather than a Mac App Store release. The June 2026 update, version 8.12, added support for security keys that need on-device verification and a local server so AI coding tools such as Codex can reach a developer's vault directly. It costs $2.99 a month for one person or $4.49 a month for a family of five for the first year, billed yearly, rising to $3.99 and $5.99 after that, with a 14-day free trial.
