Dark mode is dark grey, not red. Any light at all costs me my night vision for twenty minutes, so I end up covering the screen with a cloth.

Covering the screen with a cloth is a strong sign the dark mode is not doing the job it exists to do. Agreed.

In progress: a proper night mode in red on black, with its own brightness that does not touch the rest of the Mac, and a shortcut to reach it without hunting through settings in the dark.
