Best time to call the USA from India

India and the United States sit almost exactly half a world apart, so there is no hour that is mid-afternoon in both places. The good news is that the same offset that rules out daytime-to-daytime calls makes your evening to America's morning a reliable, comfortable window.

How far behind India is the US?

India keeps a single time zone, India Standard Time, at UTC+5:30, and it does not change for daylight saving. The US does, so the gap depends on the season and which US coast you are calling.

The best windows to call

Because the US is behind, your evening is their morning. Aim for the start of the American working day, which is a comfortable after-work hour for you in India.

These conversions use US daylight saving (mid-March to early November). In US winter, the same India evening lands one hour earlier in the US morning. For the West Coast specifically, the sweet spot is later in your night: 8:30–10:30 PM IST reaches about 8:00–10:00 AM Pacific.

For a business call vs a personal call

For a work call, the cleanest overlap is your early evening against America's morning. Around 6:30 PM IST is 9:00 AM on the US East Coast, just as colleagues settle in. If you need the West Coast, push to 9:00–10:30 PM IST so you catch the start of their day rather than the middle of their night.

Your evening call depends on the US side being at work. These are the 2026 US federal holidays published by the US Office of Personnel Management. They apply to federal employees; check whether the company you are calling observes the same days.

The one that catches people out is Thanksgiving: Thursday 26 November is a US holiday, so the last US morning you can reach a federal office that week is Wednesday 25 November.
