About
Typeface is the font manager Mac designers recommend to each other. Independent developer Floor Steeg has built a genuinely beautiful browsing experience: live previews of your own sample text across the whole library, flexible grid and list views, tags for organisation, and one-click activation so fonts only load when a project needs them. It handles variable fonts and OpenType features properly, hunts down duplicates, and pulls in more than 5,000 Google Fonts.
Version 4.3 introduced Pairing Studio, a dedicated space for testing heading and body combinations before committing to them; it runs on macOS 12 and later. Sync a cloud folder and the same library follows you across Macs. The app is a free trial with a one-time $44.99 Pro unlock covering twelve months of new Pro features, and everything you unlock keeps working afterwards.
Alternatives
- FontBase
Pick FontBase if you want a free font manager, or one that also runs on Windows and Linux: its site says it is totally free and supports Mac, Windows and Linux.
- RightFont
Pick RightFont if your Mac is still on macOS 11 Big Sur: its site says it requires macOS 11 or newer, while Typeface needs macOS 12.
- Font Book
Stay with Font Book if the basics are enough: it ships with every Mac, costs nothing, and installs, validates, activates and groups fonts into collections.
