About
Antinote is a scratchpad for thoughts that do not deserve a filing system. One global hotkey summons a small, fast window; type a sum and it calculates inline, paste a price and it converts currencies and units, write a list and it becomes checkboxes. Notes are deliberately temporary, auto-deleting on a schedule you set, and anything worth keeping exports straight to Apple Notes, Obsidian, Bear or plain text.
Built by Cmd-N Studios for macOS 14 and later, it also fits in timers, a pomodoro mode, screenshot-to-text OCR and fourteen themes, all saved locally with no cloud in sight. The Verge named it one of its ten favourite things of 2025, and at $5, one payment with lifetime updates, it is the easiest recommendation in this collection.
Alternatives
- Tot
Pick Tot if you want your scratch text on iPhone and iPad as well: it is free on Mac, iPhone and iPad with paid premium features, and syncs through iCloud.
- Notes
Stay with Notes if you want something built in and free: it solves maths inline when you type an equals sign, and it has Quick Note for fast capture.

Curator's Note
“The best $5 on this list: it replaced a desk full of sticky notes in an afternoon.”
