What the extension accesses
When you play media on a supported site (such as YouTube, Spotify, Apple Music, Tidal or SoundCloud), the extension reads:
- The now-playing details the site already publishes - the title, artist and artwork via the browser's standard Media Session API, plus the play/pause state and current position of the audio or video.
- The address (URL) of the page that's playing, so the right thing can be reopened later.
It does not read your passwords, form inputs, page text, browsing history beyond the current media page, or anything on non-media sites.
Where that information goes
The extension sends this information only to the Echo app running locally on your own Mac, over a local connection (localhost / 127.0.0.1) that never leaves your computer. The Echo app stores your play history locally on your Mac.
- We do not operate any server that receives this data.
- The extension makes no external network requests with your data.
- There is no tracking, no analytics, no advertising, and no account.
- Your information is never sold or shared with anyone.
Limited Use
The use of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Control
- The extension does nothing unless the Echo app is running on your Mac.
- You can disable or remove the extension at any time from your browser's extensions page.
- You can exclude specific apps or sites from being recorded in the Echo app's settings.
